Hydraulic Service and Repair

Do you like to fix things and make them work? Do you like to work with tools? If you like working with machinery and have a mechanical aptitude, this certificate program provides the specific education you need for your career. The curriculum takes only nine months to complete, and it is immediately usable on the job!

This nine-month, 48-credit program of study prepares students with the basic knowledge and skills to get started in the rebuilding and repair of hydraulic equipment, a rapidly growing segment of the fluid power industry. Graduates of this program will be highly effective employees for firms with off-road machinery that utilizes hydraulics, including the agriculture, construction, and mining industries.

The Industry Need
The maintenance/repair field represents a rapidly growing segment of the fluid power industry. This trend is the result of the ever-increasing popularity and complexity of hydraulic components and circuits on both mobile and industrial machinery. This increased complexity of the equipment requires special skills and knowledge to rebuild the fluid power components. The demand for skilled people continues to grow as the manufacturers of hydraulic and pneumatic components continue to experience increased demand. Ohio State ATI's certificate program in Hydraulic Service and Repair prepares individuals to meet this industry need.

Where the Jobs Are
Employment opportunities exist with firms who specialize in the repair or rebuilding of fluid power components. Because rebuilding is often more cost effective and quicker than buying new components, many large industrial users and manufacturers seek individuals with these skills for maintenance positions. Most industrial plants and mobile equipment owners elect to rebuild their hydraulic and pneumatic equipment because of the complications often experienced in obtaining replacement pumps, valves, motors, and cylinders, and due to the high cost of these items.

Facilities
Hydraulic Service and Repair students work in a dedicated laboratory which is part of the 15,000-square foot Engineering Technologies facility. The laboratory features a complete array of components. A 50HP pump test stand, a 75HP motor test stand and a servo-valve demonstration unit are included among the hardware items. The lab also boasts computer data acquisition capability as well as complete hose/tubing fabrication capabilities. Ohio State ATI's laboratory equipment is continuously upgraded as leading fluid power manufacturers donate equipment to the Institute.
