The Ohio State University Academy is an opportunity for outstanding high school students to enroll in Ohio State classes. The Academy program is the Ohio State implementation of the Post-Secondary Enrollment Options Program created by the state of Ohio and is a partnership between Ohio State, the high school, and the student and his or her parents. The Academy is meant as a supplement to the high school education, not a substitute for it.

Options for Enrolling
Option A -- Students enroll in courses to receive college credit, and the student's family is responsible for all costs. This option is available all quarters.

Option B -- Students enroll in courses to receive both college credit and high school credit, and the local school district is responsible for the cost of tuition and books. This option is not available summer quarter.

Participation in the Academy program
The Academy program is open to the following:
  • Students who are residents of Ohio.
  • Students who reside in the home of their parent or guardian, which must be within commuting distance of the Ohio State campus of enrollment. (On-campus housing is not available.)
  • Students who have achieved at the highest academic levels while in high school.
  • Students who meet the admission criteria, which is based on class rank, grade point average, and standardized test scores.
The majority of students who enroll in the Academy are in the 11th or 12th grade. Exceptional students in the 9th and 10th grade may apply for the program but must meet the same admission requirements as older students.

Applying to the Academy
Students who wish to participate in the Academy program should first meet with the high school counselor or principal to discuss the opportunities and risks offered by the Post Secondary Enrollment Options Program. The student must complete the application for admission and both student and parent must sign. The high school counselor or principal must complete the high school information form. There is a required application fee.

The student or high school also must submit the following:
  • Official high school transcripts
  • Standardized test scores

To be considered for admission, students must meet the following deadlines:
    • Autumn quarter -- May 1
    • Winter quarter -- November 1
    • Spring quarter -- February 1
    • Summer quarter -- April 1
You can download an application here.

    Academy Admission Requirements
Admission requirements for the Academy include the following:
    • Top 15% class rank (if no rank available, grade point average of 3.5 or higher)
    • ACT or Plan scores of 26 or higher, SAT score of 1180 or higher, or PSAT score of 118 (verbal and math) or higher
    • Recommendation of high school counselor or principal

Applying to Ohio State after high school graduation
Students who plan to attend Ohio State as degree-seeking students must apply for admission to the university. Updated transcripts will also need to be submitted at this time. Students who enroll in courses through the Academy will not need to re-pay the application fee. Students who apply for the Academy but do not enroll have four quarters to apply to the university. After the fourth quarter, a new application fee will be required. Students who enroll as degree-seeking students after high school graduation will be considered freshmen, which means they will be eligible for freshmen scholarships, etc.

    Courses
Students must complete the college prep requirement in the subject area of interest before enrolling in a course through the Academy Program. There may be additional requirements by academic departments at Ohio State. Course enrollment is limited by the number of seats available in the course.

  • Interested in Academy? Start here:
    • Schedule a campus visit and conference with Academy Academic Advisor: Get accurate information right from the start in regards to how the Academy program works at Ohio State. You can arrange this visit by contacting Ohio State ATI's Admissions Office at 330-264-3911, ext. 1327.

    • Talk to your guidance counselor to find out how PSEOP works with your high school schedule: It is important to meet with guidance counselor to find out how to coordinate your Ohio State ATI schedule of classes with your high school schedule of classes and activities.

    • Apply early: Take note of the application deadlines for each quarter. It is important to apply early to allow plenty of time to coordinate schedules if you are admitted to the Academy. * Develop a multi-quarter schedule of courses: Your Academy academic advisor will assist you in creating a tentative schedule of courses that will allow you to move on to the collegiate level in many areas while you continue your academic responsibilities at your high school. Remember, the Academy program allows you to supplement, not replace, high school course work. Ohio State does not permit Academy students to enroll in courses in a particular subject area until they have completed the college prep requirement in that discipline. This also means that Academy students cannot use Ohio State courses to fulfill college prep requirements.

    • Attend orientation (SOAR) and register for classes: Once you have been admitted to the Academy you will be contacted by our SOAR (Student Orientation, Assessment and Registration) office prior to the beginning of the quarter to schedule your orientation date. On the orientation day you will attend sessions explaining the registration process, take assessment tests in math, reading and/or English, meet with your advisor, and register for Ohio State ATI classes.
